Victorian Face Screen in Blue

Victorian face screens were functional, hand-held shields used in the 19th century to protect a woman's face from direct heat of an open fireplace. They also helped protect the heavy, wax-based cosmetics at the time and stop them from melting off their faces. This screen has been intricately embroidered with a floral design in the center. c. mid to late 19th century.
