Framed acrylic on octagonal canvas attributed to Alvin D. Loving (1935-2005). c. 1960s. Signed 'A. Loving' on back. Studio made stretched canvas custom framed in a thick, dark brown wood.

Alvin D. Loving Jr. was born in Detroit and studied painting at the University of Michigan. In 1968, Loving moved to New York. A year later he would become the first African-American to have a one person show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. A staunch abstract expressionist, he was influenced by Josef Albers and Hans Hoffman.
