Crafted by local Kansas City furniture maker Grace Ambrose. We feel so honored to share her work and we feature it proudly in our shop. Each chair is one-of-a-kind.
It's completely handmade, with mortise and tenon joinery throughout. The comb and seat are elm, the sticks, legs and stretchers are red oak, the arm is quarter-sawn sycamore and the tenons are all wedged with hickory.
The paint was handmade from quark (fresh skim milk cheese), lime, water and Ercolano Red pigment, which is from Herculaneum, the town next to Pompeii that was also buried by Mount Vesuvius. It has a beeswax and linseed oil finish on top of the paint. The finishes are non-toxic.
