One of my favorite finds to date. Large stone sculpture carved from one single block of Italian travertine. By renowned Italian artist Girolamo Ciulla (1952-2023). Ciulla's works were driven by depicting ancient mythology thru a contemporary lens. This particular piece depicts a crocodile sitting above a wheat bunch. The crocodile could possibly be Sobek, the Egyptian god of fertility and agriculture among other things. He is perched on top of the wheat as a symbol of protecting the crop. Signed on base. c. 1990s.
This piece has been repaired in a few sections over the years and does seem to be missing some small points near the top and bottom of the wheat bunch. But in overall stunning condition.
Dimensions: 9"w x 6.5"d x 23"t
Shipping as available, however, this will take approx. 2 weeks to prep. Would much rather have this picked up in-store or I am more than happy to discuss delivery. Please email me at hello@forgoodweather.com with any questions.
