African Hunting Tunic on Horn

This is a naturally dyed hemp tunic that would have been worn by a hunter in the Bamana tribe in West Africa during ceremony and usually during the hunt. Adorned with numerous small mirrors, shells and leather talismanic packets—often containing esoteric substances or religious verses —such garments were believed to provide both spiritual protection and physical success in the hunt or in combat. c. mid 20th century. 

Hangs from a found animal's horn, possibly an oryx.
